The Owingsville/Bath County
Parks and Recreation, Tourism, and Convention Commission was
formed in ______, originally as the Owingsville Parks, Recreation,
Tourism, and Convention Commission. Mayor Don Kincaid formed
the original commission comprised of seven members who all resided
within the city limits of Owingsville. In _____ ordinance ______
was passed to include the county and a joint commission was
comprised of city and county residence was formed so that the
entire county would be represented. During this time businessmen
Wendell McClurg and John Huber donated a tract of land containing
16 acres located on thier recently purchased farm to the city
and county to be used exclusively for a multi-use recreational
park. While prgress was slow at first the commission pushed
ahead with plans to build the facility you see today. Along
with the Sports Complex, the commission was given Jones Park,
Slate Furnace, and the public pool to manage and and maintain.
Commission members are selected by the Judge Exectutive and
the Mayor on an alternating basis with members serving 3 year
terms, at which time they can either ask to remain on the board
or be replaced. Members are not compensated and are strictly
voluntary positions for the betterment of the county.
