History

The Owingsville/Bath County Parks and Recreation, Tourism, and Convention Commission was formed in ______, originally as the Owingsville Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Convention Commission. Mayor Don Kincaid formed the original commission comprised of seven members who all resided within the city limits of Owingsville. In _____ ordinance ______ was passed to include the county and a joint commission was comprised of city and county residence was formed so that the entire county would be represented. During this time businessmen Wendell McClurg and John Huber donated a tract of land containing 16 acres located on thier recently purchased farm to the city and county to be used exclusively for a multi-use recreational park. While prgress was slow at first the commission pushed ahead with plans to build the facility you see today. Along with the Sports Complex, the commission was given Jones Park, Slate Furnace, and the public pool to manage and and maintain. Commission members are selected by the Judge Exectutive and the Mayor on an alternating basis with members serving 3 year terms, at which time they can either ask to remain on the board or be replaced. Members are not compensated and are strictly voluntary positions for the betterment of the county.

The current members of the Commission would like to thank all the past efforts in making this park possible, and the hard work that went into the planning and construction of the complex.
